西安唐都医院王学廉主任带领的功能神经外科组建于1997年10月，在国内率先引进并最早开展了微电极导向立体定向苍白球、丘脑毁损术治疗帕金森病，并在此基础上发明了“边界定位法”，极大地提高了手术疗效，显著降低了并发症发生率，获2000年国家技术发明二等奖，是全球采用该技术治疗帕金森病病例最多的中心之一。
